Reflection:

Media Specialists are true leaders in the schools. I initially wanted to go into Leadership. I acquired the certification and added it to my license. Then, I noticed that principals have mostly negative interaction with students and tons of paperwork. I quickly realized that this was not the job for me. I knew I wanted to impact the school on a bigger level. I wanted to be a leader and I wanted to be creative. I discovered the field of being a media specialist. The rest is history! Being in the media center, has allowed me to instruct teachers and help them plan lessons.
After working with my mentor, I decided to include a chili cook off for my Professional Development. I knew I had to host a professional development but I didn't have enough money in my budget to feel the participants and I knew they wouldn't come. During my visit with Kyle Flemish, he mentioned he had hosted a chili cook off to boost morale. That is when it clicked. If I host a chili cook off, then the teachers would buy the food so I wouldn't have to spend money. I sent out an email to the teachers and the response was amazing! So many teachers signed up!
I hosted a chili cook off for teachers! While they sampled chili, I held a brief PD on the databases. Teachers came in for intervals of 30 minutes during their lunch to learn more about the databases for classroom instruction and graduate school. I also created an online distance learning module for teachers who were not present. Click here to view the module.
