Candidate As Instructional Partner
Reflection:

I partnered with a 10th grade Language Arts teacher to create and teach a lesson entitled “Zombie Apocalypse Awareness” . In this lesson, we targeted students who are preparing to take the Gateway Test. The Gateway is a Gwinnett County Public Schools document based learning test. I met with Mr. Filush to discuss how to get kids interested in the topic so that they could buy in to it. We wanted a high interest topic that had not been explored. We decided on Zombies because our students like many other students around the world are obsessed with zombies. When the students heard that we were discussing zombies, they were excited. We knew it would be a success at that point.

He introduced the project in class and when they came to the media center I reviewed the topic and discussed my role. I told them that I would be teaching them how to use the databases to get reliable information. I also showed the students how to set up Easbybib accounts to help making citing easier. In addition, I covered MLA format and explained the consequences of plagiarism. I also created a Zombie Libguide for the students to use so that they could have access to all my teaching resources. For the assessment, the students had to create a brochure, advertisement, or commercial to raise awareness about the health crisis. In addition, the students had to come up with an action plan for leaving the city using the advice of the CDD. The students also had to write a narrative about life during a zombie outbreak and direct a news bulletin.
